Kansas City, along with the Chiefs football team, is actively championing the Light the World Giving Machines initiative in Kansas City and around the world.
Last week marked the official unveiling of the 2023 holiday season Giving Machines, orchestrated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This year’s machines have seen substantial expansion, now making their presence felt in 61 cities across seven countries, more than doubling the 28 machines from the previous year.
Adding a touch of significance to the event, Donna Kelce, the mother of Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce, is set to be a featured guest at the unveiling of the 2023 Giving Machines in Kansas City on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 5:30 p.m. This announcement was communicated via Kansas City’s Giving Machine Instagram account last Thursday.
In a recent Instagram Reel, Tammy Reid, wife of Chiefs football coach Andy Reid, and Tavia Hunt, wife of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, shared that Giving Machines will find a home inside the Grand Hall in Union Station starting Nov. 21. They underscored that these machines, easily recognizable by their striking red appearance, are stocked with items directly benefiting those in need.
“Don’t forget, @donnakelce is unwrapping the Machine at Union Station on Nov. 21 with her friend Tammy Reid,” the post emphasized.
Tammy Reid and Tavia Hunt conveyed a compelling message: “Together, we can light the world.”
Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce, who has been in the spotlight this year for his relationship with music superstar Taylor Swift, has wholeheartedly endorsed the Giving Machines. In a video shared on Instagram, Kelce urges individuals to visit the unmistakable big red boxes, make a donation, and bring joy to someone else’s Christmas or holidays. He concludes the message with an enthusiastic, “And, as always, go Chiefs, baby.”
Kelce’s commitment to charitable efforts, including Operation Breakthrough and Children’s Mercy Hospital, aligns with his personal beliefs as outlined in his Players Bio. Noteworthy celebrities such as actor Paul Rudd and actress/talk show host Drew Barrymore have also spoken highly of the Giving Machines in the past.
Kansas City stands as just one of many locations hosting Giving Machines across the United States, Australia, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, New Zealand, and the Philippines. Dedicated social media accounts for each city provide specific details about the machine locations. These Giving Machines will remain open from mid-November (depending on the location) until Jan. 1, 2024.
