The producer/director of “The Other Side of Heaven” and its imminent sequel, “The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith,” Mitch Davis, today announced a series of initiatives to rerelease the Disney Home Entertainment-distributed original in preparation for the nationwide theatrical release of the sequel on June 28, 2019.
The multi-pronged initiative leverages renewed efforts by partners including Amazon Prime, Excel Entertainment, BYUtv, Megaplex Theatres, KSL, Living Scriptures, and LDSmissionaries.com, among others, “to reintroduce the worldwide audience to the magic of the original film and get them excited about the major motion picture sequel it inspired,” explains Davis.
“After the first movie was released in theaters and Disney released the DVD version, it lived a vibrant life around the world, especially inside LDS households where tens of thousands of future missionaries grew up on its stories,” Davis says. “But a lot of households don’t use DVD’s anymore and a good number of the rising generation have never seen the original film. For audiences old and new to fully appreciate the sequel, we want to make sure they get fresh exposure to the original.”
Elder Groberg added his encouragement to this initiative.
“There are many great lessons to be learned from both films, which is why I have been so supportive of their production,” Elder Groberg stated. “I think that is why President Monson was so insistent that I write the books and then so interested in seeing the movies produced. I think he knew these stories have a role to play in the world in these last days. He was a prophet and knew the end from the beginning.
Elder Groberg also paid tribute to BYUtv and its Managing Director, Mike Dunn, for their financial support of the production of the ambitious sequel, “The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith.”
“It takes a lot of faith to make a movie, but it also takes a lot of money. It would not have been possible for us to fund this major motion picture without the generous support of Mike Dunn and Andra Duke and BYUtv,” he stated. “We are most grateful for their kind and timely assistance.”
In return for what Davis describes as “a substantial contribution,” BYUtv claims exclusive TV and digital distribution rights. In a separate deal, BYUtv has also purchased the rights to begin broadcasting the original film on its channel commencing the last week of June 2019.
“As a nationwide television network, our standards are very high,” said Michael Dunn, Managing Director of BYUtv. “We insist on airing nothing but world-class entertainment the entire family can enjoy. Which is why we are so excited to be bringing The Other Side of Heaven and The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith to an entire new generation of viewers. These epic, faith-promoting movies not only epitomize the uplifting values of our channel, but also provide our viewers with the Hollywood-level story-telling and production values they have come to expect.”
Davis praised both Groberg and Dunn for their “visionary, bold leadership” in advancing the cause of this latest film.
“Elder Groberg personally made this latest movie happen,” Davis revealed. “And Mike Dunn and Andra Duke made it possible for us to produce the film at a major studio level. None of this would have been possible without them.”
“The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith” debuts in theaters nationwide on June 28, 2019. The original “The Other Side of Heaven” is currently available on multiple streaming platforms and will be broadcast on BYUTV on Sunday night, June 23, 2019.
