Speaking during a 2020 Christmas devotional to missionaries, Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recalled serving five decades ago as a young missionary in France.

Christmas 1970 saw Elder Andersen concluding six weeks of studying French at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. By New Year’s Eve, he was serving in a small branch in Perigueux, France.

This Church News video, titled “A Missionary Christmas,” features Elder Andersen sharing reflections — 50 years later — on his first Christmas as a missionary.
