In June 2018, the Church announced that a new hymnbook will be coming. What is the foundation of Latter-day Saint hymnbooks? The very first hymnal, compiled by Emma Smith, reflected the unique message of the Restoration while also drawing on the diverse faith backgrounds of early Church members. The hymns reflected the faith, commitment, and hopes of the early Saints, as well as the doctrinal themes that were important to them.
