There’s a new way to give in Portland this holiday season. The Salvation Army and other organizations have teamed up to install some charity vending machines. The Light the World giving machines were unveiled today at Washington Square Mall in Tigerd. Light the World is a campaign of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. People can purchase items like socks, shoes, winter coats, and school supplies that will then be donated to those in need. Representatives for the Salvation Army and local charities were on hand to reveal the machines, along with actor Jon Heder, best known for his role as Napoleon Dynamite.

I love the way that these are designed. It makes it easy. People so often and myself, especially around this time of year, want to come here. They want to get… You want to give. You want to give. It’s the time of year. You want to give all year round. But these, sometimes you just don’t know exactly how to. And you’re like, Well, is there a local food bank I could go serve at, or can I do this? And here it’s just like you push a couple of buttons and these organizations do the rest of the work. I’m very grateful for them, and it makes it easier for us to give.

Since launching in 2017, these machines have helped one and a half million people donate more than $22 million worth of items. And a quick reminder you.

Light the World Giving Machines: A New Way to Give Back

The holiday season in Portland just got a little brighter with the unveiling of a unique initiative to spread joy and generosity. The Salvation Army and other charitable organizations have joined forces to introduce charity vending machines at Washington Square Mall in Tigard. These vending machines, part of the Light the World campaign by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offer a novel way for people to contribute to the community by purchasing essential items for those in need.

The concept of these giving machines is simple yet powerful. People can choose to buy items such as socks, shoes, winter coats, and school supplies, which will then be donated to individuals who require assistance. The convenience and accessibility of these machines make it easier for individuals to make a meaningful impact, especially during the holiday season when the spirit of giving is at its peak.

One of the most significant aspects of the Light the World giving machines is the way they streamline the process of giving. As highlighted by a representative at the unveiling event, these machines provide an easy and efficient way for people to channel their desire to give back into tangible actions. Instead of feeling unsure about how to contribute or where to volunteer, individuals can simply push a few buttons and trust that the chosen organizations will take care of the rest.

Since their launch in 2017, these giving machines have made a substantial difference in the lives of many. With over one and a half million people benefiting from more than $22 million worth of donated items, it’s evident that this initiative has resonated with the community. The success of the Light the World campaign is a testament to the collective goodwill and compassion of the people in Portland and beyond.

In a world where acts of kindness and generosity can have a profound impact, the introduction of the Light the World giving machines is a heartwarming reminder of the power of coming together to support those in need. As we enter the holiday season, let’s embrace this innovative approach to giving and continue to spread hope and joy to those who could use a helping hand. The future looks brighter with initiatives like these paving the way for a more compassionate and caring society.
