Location of Lethbridge Alberta Temple Announced

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the location of the temple to be built inΒ Lethbridge, Alberta.

Lethbridge Alberta Temple SiteThe temple, spanning over nine acres, is set to be constructed at the intersection of Whoop Up Drive West and Mauretania Road West in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The project entails the creation of a multi-story temple spanning around 45,000 square feet, along with an adjacent distribution center.

The Lethbridge AlbertaΒ Temple was first announced in April 2023 by Church PresidentΒ Russell M. Nelson. This will be the fourth house of the Lord in the province of Alberta and the 10th overall in Canada. Alberta is home to the first temple built in the country and the sixth temple built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

TheΒ Cardston Alberta Temple, which wasΒ dedicatedΒ one hundred years agoΒ in August 1923 by previous Church PresidentΒ Heber J. Grant, is also the first temple constructed outside of the United States. The other eight temples in operation in Canada are found in the cities ofΒ Calgary,Β Edmonton,Β Halifax,Β Montreal,Β Regina,Β Toronto,Β VancouverΒ andΒ Winnipeg.

In September 1830, the father and brother ofΒ Joseph Smith Jr., the first Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ, preached in several Canadian towns close to the United States border. Between 1830 and 1850, some 2,500 Canadians joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cardston, Alberta, was settled by Latter-day Saints in 1887. Today,Β CanadaΒ is home to more than 200,000 Latter-day Saints in over 490 congregations.
