BOM-BITES Episode #978 – 1 Nephi 14:9–14

In 1 Nephi 13-14 of the Book of Mormon, there is a vision that describes a “#Great and Abominable Church.” This term is symbolic and is not meant to refer to any specific church or religion in our world today. Instead, it represents all systems of belief, organizations, or individuals that oppose God’s work and seek to draw people away from the love of God and the truth of the Gospel.

Here’s a bit more detail: The “great and abominable church” is described as being founded by the devil and is associated with worldly things instead of spiritual ones. It is often characterized by pride, wealth, and worldly power, and opposes the humble, obedient followers of Christ.

Remember, the purpose of the Book of Mormon (like all scripture) is to bring us closer to Christ. So the main lesson from these chapters is to choose Jesus over the world, or, in other words, to choose the humble, obedient path instead of the path of pride and disobedience.
