I Am a Child of God

Acts 16-21Β

After Saul was converted, his name was changed to Paul. He was determined to keep his promise to follow Jesus Christ and share the gospel. The Jews were angry with him for teaching about Jesus Christ. But Paul kept teaching. He traveled many places, teaching the gospel and baptizing those that would hear his message.

Paul warned the people against worshipping idols and false gods. He taught the people that we are the offspring of God. God created all things, including us. Not only are we one of His creations, we are His children.

Heavenly Father loves all His children and wants them to know that Jesus Christ is our Savior, and that He has a plan for us. We can share the gospel with those around us and help to gather the family of God.

Acts 16:Β Paul is directed in a vision to preach in Macedoniaβ€”He casts an evil spirit out of a womanβ€”He and Silas are imprisoned, and they convert the jailorβ€”They admonish all to believe on the Lord Jesus and be saved.

Acts 17:Β Paul and Silas preach and are persecuted in Thessalonica and in Bereaβ€”Paul, in Athens, preaches from Mars’ Hill about the unknown godβ€”He says, We are the offspring of God.

Acts 18:Β Being rejected by the Jews, Paul turns to the Gentilesβ€”He preaches, ministers, and travelsβ€”Apollos also preaches with power.

Acts 19:Β Paul confers the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of handsβ€”He preaches and works many miraclesβ€”The sons of Sceva fail to cast out devils by exorcismβ€”The worshippers of Diana (Artemis) raise a tumult against Paul.

Acts 20:Β Paul raises Eutychus from deathβ€”Paul is free from the blood of all menβ€”He predicts apostasy from within the Churchβ€”He reveals a teaching from Jesus, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Acts 21:Β Paul journeys to Jerusalemβ€”He is persecuted, arrested, and bound.

Scripture

Acts 17:29

β€œForasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.”

Questions

  • Why did Paul continue to share the gospel, even when it was dangerous?
  • Why is it important to know that we are children of God?
  • How can we help gather the family of God?

Quote

β€œYou are a child of God. He is the father of your spirit. Spiritually you are of noble birth, the offspring of the King of Heaven. Fix that truth in your mind and hold to it. However many generations in your mortal ancestry, no matter what race or people you represent, the pedigree of your spirit can be written on a single line. You are a child of God!”– Boyd K. Packer
