Most members of the Church of Jesus Christ know that Martin Harris went to Dr. Charles Anthon with a copy of characters from the record that became the Book of Mormon and that Anthon certified the characters were correct and then tore up that certification and demanded that Martin Harris bring the plates to him and he would translate them. But lesser-known is the fact that Harris also went to Dr. Samuel Latham Mitchell, who had a much different take.
