The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a special birthday broadcast in honor of President Russell M. Nelson’s 100th birthday on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 4 p.m. MDT. President Nelson, the Church’s 17th president, has invited everyone to commemorate his milestone by reaching out to those in need, inspired by the Savior’s parable of the lost sheep (Matthew 18, Luke 15). People are encouraged to share their experiences using #99Plus1 on social media.
Throughout his life, President Nelson has exemplified caring for individuals as both a disciple of Jesus Christ and a world-renowned heart surgeon. President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, noted that for the past 40 years, President Nelson has demonstrated how to serve others selflessly and lovingly. President Jeffrey R. Holland, Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, praised President Nelson’s unwavering kindness and Christlike character, urging everyone to follow his example.
The 75-minute broadcast will highlight President Nelson’s life and teachings, sharing stories from people worldwide who have felt his influence over the past 100 days. The event will be available for live stream on Broadcasts.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, the Churchβs YouTube channel, and the Gospel Stream app. It will also be accessible on-demand on YouTube, Gospel Media, and the Gospel Stream app, with live interpretation in multiple languages.
