Why a Companion for Family Scripture Study?
Debbi Rolloβs family began reading the rhymes that she was writing along with their family scripture study of the Book of Mormon, which made scripture study more fun and easier to understand. So, rather than creating another childrenβs storybook based on the Book of Mormon, Debbi felt compelled to turn her book into a companion for scripture study, as well as for fun reading to better βlearn and love the Book of Mormon.β

LET US GO UP
Let us go up,
Let us be strong,
Let us be faithful too;
Up like Nephi,
Strong like Moses,
Faithful, good, and true.
MAN ON THE SEA
Look, said the angel,
At the man on the sea,
Led by the Spirit,
To fulfill prophecy.
Look at the Gentiles,
The angel did say,
In ships on the waters,
Who will come here one day!

Book Cover and Illustrations
The dynamic cover of βBook of Mormon Rhymesβ, a picture of the Savior with outstretched arms over Book of Mormon characters, was created by Jonathan Bellio. He created selected illustrations that are in the book as well. βAfter posting an ad at BYU seeking an illustrator,β Debbi explained, βJonathan answered the ad and was the perfect person for the job.β It was after Jonathan began to illustrate the characters for the rhymes that gave Debbi the confidence and vision to move forward with plans for publication.
Authorβs Story
Author, Debbi Rollo, began working on the rhymes from her book a little over eight years ago after the tragic death of her 23-year-old daughter, Sarah and her husband Brad. She began reading regularly from a classic book of nursery rhymes, passed down from her Grandmother, with Sarahβs two young children, whom Debbi and her husband have since adopted and are raising. Those rhymes and beautiful illustrations lifted their troubled hearts and brought joy to their souls during their time of grief. One day while reading together, the thought came to her that there should be a book of rhymes specifically for the Book of Mormon.Β βAs I opened The Book of Mormon with this idea,β Debbi describes, βrhyming words flowed into my mind. I felt as though a host of heavenly angels hovered over me, whispering the words that I should write.β She felt compelled from that moment on to create this book for publication.
Mission of Book of Mormon Rhymes
Debbiβs mission in writing this book is to help families draw closer to God and strengthen testimonies of Jesus Christ and The Book of Mormon β to inspire others to learn and love The Book of Mormon.
Debbi is excited and passionate about helping to fulfill President Ezra Taft Bensonβs vision: βI have a vision of artists putting into film, drama, literature, music, and paintings great themes and great characters from the Book of Mormonβ¦ Indeed, I have a vision of flooding the earth with the Book of Mormon.β (Oct 1988 GC).
