Alma 17-22 | June 22-28

Ammon’s deep conversion to the gospel gave him a desire to teach those who many thought were unteachable – the Lamanites. We can learn many things about sharing the gospel from Ammon’s example. Ammon first gained the trust of King Lamoni by being his servant. When King Lamoni asked questions, Ammon began teaching him by finding common ground. King Lamoni knew about the Great Spirit. Ammon explained that the Great Spirit is God. Ammon then taught a simple lesson on the plan of salvation, explaining that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we can be redeemed. King Lamoni was so overwhelmed with the Spirit that he fell to the ground.

When we share the gospel with others, we can be a true friend, answer sincere questions, find common ground, and stick with the basics. The Spirit can then testify of the truthfulness of the gospel.

Scripture

Alma 19:35–36

“And it came to pass that there were many that did believe in their words; and as many as did believe were baptized; and they became a righteous people, and they did establish a church among them.

“And thus the work of the Lord did commence among the Lamanites; thus the Lord did begin to pour out his Spirit upon them; and we see that his arm is extended to all people who will repent and believe on his name.”

  • How did Ammon prepare King Lamoni to receive the gospel?
  • What gospel truths did Ammon first teach King Lamoni?
  • What did Abish do when she saw what had happened?
  • What can we do to share the gospel with others?

Quote

“A most significant evidence of our conversion and of how we feel about the gospel in our own lives is our willingness to share it with others and to help missionaries find someone to teach.” Dallin H. Oaks
