75 Names for Christ in the Doctrine and Covenants (Come Follow Me 2021) – powered by Happy Scribe

Hey, guys, welcome back, or for the first time to Latter Day divers, where we dive into the words of ancient and modern prophets, my name is Will Perez and this is our last video of Twenty Twenty. As much as I’ve loved studying the Book of Mormon, I’m kind of excited to get this here behind us and jump into twenty, twenty one and into a study of doctrine and covenants on my channel. I do a lot of Come, Follow Me content as well as other conference gospel insights that I hope you’ll find simple, fun, edifying.

So if you haven’t already like the channel, subscribe and come back throughout 20 21. So I always sense some initial hesitation when jumping into the doctrine and covenants. I hear things like, well, it’s not a storyline like the Book of Mormon or I don’t know, church history or it’s the same principle is about profits over and over again. The excuses are as diverse as my daughter’s face mask collection. Well, if we know what we’re looking for and how to truly investigate and appreciate the doctrine and covenants, we’ll come to feel about it like Brigham Young did about his beard when he said, at first I didn’t like it, but then it grew on me.

Today, I want to dive into one of the main things that will help us have a rich and rewarding experience in the doctrine and covenants. You already clicked on the video title, so you know where we’re going today. If you’re ready, let’s dive.

Oh, shoot. Give us a dive. Our password dive da di di. The doctrine and covenants points us to Jesus Christ, it’s not all about Joseph Smith. I love what was said at Joseph’s funeral sermon by W.W. Phelps. The Prophet Joseph came not in the whirlwind of public opinion, but in the simple name of Jesus Christ. If we learn to find Christ in the doctrine and covenants, we will be hitting the mark every time. Elder Neilly Maxwell once said.

If asked which book of Scripture provides the most frequent chance to listen to the Lord talking, most individuals would at first think of the New Testament. The New Testament is a marvelous collection of the deeds and many of the doctrines of the Messiah. But in the doctrine and covenants we receive the voice as well as the word of the Lord. We can almost hear him talking. Words like these sink into one’s marrow as well as into one’s mind, for the majesty and power of the Lord are so evident.

So here’s a list of 75 names and titles for Jesus Christ scattered throughout the Book of Mormon that will help us hear him come to know him and come to follow and emulate him. Better disclaimer, I like rhymes. So I put this listen to a rhyme.

It’s not a rap. I’m not a rapper. But as you listen to it, look for what names and titles of Jesus Christ send out to you. How do they help you feel the truth and importance of his mission, his ministry and who he is?

I am Alpha and Omega Christ the Lord who speaks today, almighty advocate with the father, the Lamb of God Lamb who was slain, the beginning and the end savior who has called you friend. I am endless. Do not fear my words are sure.

Draw near on to me and I will draw near until you seek me diligently and you shall find me, and that is the promise and the power that we can expect to find and draw into our lives as we look for and find the Lord Jesus Christ throughout the revelations of the doctrine and covenants.

There are beautiful stories. There’s wonderful church history context that will enrich and enliven. We should look through all of it. But if we fail to connect to Jesus Christ and find him in the revelations, we’re going to miss the mark every time, every time.
