Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim friends and neighbors!

Similar to the Latter-day Saint’s belief of strengthening a relationship to God through fasting, Muslims around the world have begun their yearly fast, Ramadan.

Ramadan, the most important month of the year in the Muslim calendar, begins Sunday. For the next 30 days, Muslims around the world will abstain from eating or drinking during daylight hours.

The month-long celebration commemorates Allah, the Arabic name for God, giving the first verses of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, to the Prophet Muhammad in the year 610 A.D.

For 30 days, Muslims around the world do not eat from dawn to dusk, pray intensely, donate to charities and service to their community and gather for nightly feasts to break the fast.

“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.} [Quran 2:183]”
