The Jaredites had become a wicked and ferocious people. The Lord sent Ether, a prophet, to teach the people and give them a chance to repent. Ether taught the people about hope and faith and exhorted them to believe in God. He prophesied great and marvelous things, but the people wouldn’t believe him. They refused to repent, and that ultimately lead to their destruction.
