The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is recognized by many as being built on the location where the crucifixion and the burial of Jesus Christ took place.
As Harriet and I walked through this holy site and pondered on the significance of the Savior’s sacrifice for us, we were reminded that Jesus Christ overcame death. He lives. And because He lives, all things are possible for us.
As we came across an old wooden door in this multi-religious church, we considered Matthew 7:7–8:
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
“For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
Shortly thereafter, we visited a place where it is believed the Last Supper occurred. We rested on stone benches under shade trees and read together with friends the sacrament prayers while we considered the significance of this special weekly ordinance.
Although we have been naturally reminded of the Savior, His ministry, and atoning sacrifice for us while here in Jerusalem, we can feel an even deeper closeness to our Heavenly Father and His Son through daily seeking His guidance, keeping His commandments, and regularly partaking of the sacrament—regardless of where are in life or geographic location.
God promises us that we may always have His Spirit to be with us. As we ask, seek, and knock, doors will be opened that will lead to His peace and joy.
