EyeCare4Kids™ Grand Opening – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Arizona Alhambra Vision Clinic in Glendale

EyeCare4Kids™, a global 501(c)(3) nonprofit, headquartered in Salt Lake City, will host the Grand Opening of its Glendale, AZ Clinic

Meet & Greet and Photos will begin at 9:30 a.m. In partnership with the Alhambra Elementary School District, the clinic will be located within the Alhambra Resource Center at 4432 W. Maryland Avenue in Glendale.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony marks the first permanent EyeCare4Kids™ Arizona location for the organization, which has operated “SEE-MORE,” the Mobile Vision Clinic, around the region for six years.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2021, EyeCare4Kids™ has provided nearly 400,000 visually impaired children from low-income and underserved families with vision screenings, professional eye exams, and new prescription eyeglasses at minimal or no cost – and the need is staggering:

➢ 1 in 4 youth in the U.S. have vision deficiencies; that number increases to 40% for individuals in poverty.
➢ 80% of learning during a child’s first 12 years occurs through the eyes.
➢ Uninsured children are three times more likely to go without eyeglasses in favor of other necessities.

Joseph Carbone, EyeCare4Kids™ Founder & President:
“We believe that it is a human rights’ issue for children to have clear vision to learn, grow in confidence and self-love. Many children do not even know they have a vision problem that is affecting their ability to concentrate and engage with their environment until it is recognized by a teacher, school nurse or eyecare professional. We are honored and grateful to our donors and sponsors for this opportunity to help more children.”

Superintendent Yslas:
“The Alhambra Elementary School District is committed to educating the whole child. Our families rely on collaborative partnerships between community organizations and our district to provide information, education, and resources that support the whole child.

EyeCare4Kids™ is strengthening the foundation of our families with the Arizona Alhambra Vision Clinic so that our children can face the challenges of today.”

The new clinic will be operated on a limited basis for AESD students throughout the summer.

Plans are to open the clinic full-time to the region’s families for the start of the 2021/22 school year.

The EyeCare4Kids™ Arizona Alhambra Vision Clinic is made possible, in part, by the generous support of Virginia G. Piper Trust.
