Elder Steven R. Bangerter, a General Authority Seventy, delivered a discourse titled “Foreordained To Serve” during the Saturday evening session of the April 2024 general conference. He shared insights regarding the divine foreordination of individuals to fulfill specific missions during mortality, emphasizing the importance of seeking and following God’s will to discern these missions.
Elder Bangerter expounded on the belief that before birth, God appointed each person to particular missions in their earthly lives, with the promise of blessings accompanying their worthiness. He stressed the significance of these missions, including opportunities for service within the Church and participation in the ongoing work of gathering Israel.
Furthermore, Elder Bangerter conveyed Heavenly Father’s desire to reveal to His children their preordained gifts and talents. He emphasized the importance of sincere inquiry, genuine desire, and obedience to God’s will in receiving this revelation. He suggested methods such as safeguarding personal moments for spiritual reflection through scripture study, prayer, uplifting music, and pondering one’s patriarchal blessing.
Elder Bangerter highlighted the enhancement of one’s spiritual journey through the protection of private moments and active participation in gospel ordinances and covenants. He expressed confidence that this approach would strengthen individuals’ connections with God, bolster their faith, and provide assurance in the promises made to them.
