Elder Quentin L. Cook | April 2024 General Conference| ‘Be One with Christ’ Summary

Elder Quentin L. Cook, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, delivered a discourse titled “Be One with Christ” during the Saturday afternoon session of the April 2024 general conference. He discussed the concept of moral agency and the pathway to unity with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through the Savior’s Atonement.

In his #GeneralConference address, Elder Cook referenced Jesus Christ’s prayer for oneness prior to His betrayal and crucifixion, emphasizing that unity with Christ and Heavenly Father is achievable through the Savior’s Atonement. He highlighted the teachings found in Doctrine and Covenants 20 regarding the Atonement, the plan of salvation, and the ordinances of baptism and the sacrament. Elder Cook stressed that spiritual qualifications, rather than economic, racial, gender, or ethnic factors, determine eligibility for baptism, welcoming all to partake of the Lord’s blessings.

However, he clarified that while there are no prerequisites based on worldly criteria, individuals must still adhere to conduct requirements. Elder Cook emphasized the importance of moral agency in choosing to follow Christ and obey His commandments to receive the blessings of the Atonement.

Elder Cook acknowledged the inevitability of uncontrollable events in life such as health challenges and accidents but emphasized that individuals have agency in matters of principle, conduct, religious observance, and righteous living. He emphasized that faith in and worship of God the Father and Jesus Christ are choices individuals must actively make.

Moreover, Elder Cook echoed President Russell M. Nelson’s call to gather Israel, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and unity with others. He emphasized that true belonging is found in being one with Christ, united by love and faith in Him and as children of a loving Heavenly Father.
