Checking for Worms

Well, one worm specifically. Some people may have heard of the Conficker worm. If you’re Mac user, you’re safe, this is only for windows users. The Conficker worm is very widespread. It has managed to infect a lot of computers.

One of the reasons so many people are so worried, is that its highly encrypted, so experts haven’t been able to really look at its programing to figure out what it will do. Some things are now known, as it has come out of hibernation and began doing things. The concern to the average user is that it may save some of your important information and share it with website you don’t want it shared with. It may also download fake anti-virus software and encourage you to pay to have that software remove viruses from your computer.

The long and short is, if you have Conficker, you need to get rid of it quickly. If you don’t, make sure you’re safe, so you don’t get it.

STEP 1: How do you know if you have it?

Its easy to find out if you’re infected. Just visit this web page here. Its called an eye chart, because you can easily deduce if you have the Conficker worm on your computer by which images display in the table at the top. If all the images display, you’re safe. Skip to step 3.

STEP 2: How do you get rid of it?

STEP 3: How do you prevent it & future infections?

To prevent Conficker and other viruses, worms, trojans, etc., from infecting your computer, make sure you turn on Windows update and tell it to automatically download and install important updates. Just go to this website here, and select Windows XP or Windows Vista down at the bottom for instructions on how to turn on automatic updates.

You’ll also want to open whatever antivirus software you have and click on the “update” option to get the latest virus information, so it can find and catch any new viruses, worms, etc.
