STEP 3: How do you prevent it & future infections?
To prevent Conficker and other viruses, worms, trojans, etc., from infecting your computer, make sure you turn on Windows update and tell it to automatically download and install important updates. Just go to this website here, and select Windows XP or Windows Vista down at the bottom for instructions on how to turn on automatic updates.
You’ll also want to open whatever antivirus software you have and click on the “update” option to get the latest virus information, so it can find and catch any new viruses, worms, etc.
