Can you change thinking patterns like “I do things this way, because that’s just the way its done,” to “Is there a better way? Is there a simpler way that will give me more time to focus on the things that matter most?” If you can, your life will never be the same.
Interestingly, Apostles & Prophets have been telling us to adopt this attitude for some time now.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s talk “Of Things That Matter Most” was all about exactly the purpose of this site: innovate, simplify, and focus on the what’s most important.
I had intended to do a write-up on his talk, breaking it down to help us all better understand this message of simplification. However, when I began looking at the references, I came across another great talk on the same ideas by Elder Dallin H. Oaks called “Good, Better, Best.”
That, led me to the talk we used to have an extensive summary of, on our about page called “O Be Wise” by Elder M. Russell Ballard.
So instead of a write-up, I have a video mash-up for you. I took clips from all three talks and arranged them in a way that groups them into two major groups: first, the problems we face from going too fast and taking on too much. That is followed by their suggestions and solutions to combat the problems we face. Within those groups there are several topics covered: simplifying our callings, focusing family activities on the gospel, and getting to know ourselves better.
We hope you’ll feel the same way that MLH YouTube subscriber (a great way to see videos like this before we post about them) Micah Stubz did when he commented on the video: “this should be played before every presidency meeting in the church.”
