Preparing the Way

John 1 | Jan 16-22

John the Baptist was chosen to be a prophet to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. He taught the people about Jesus Christ and prepared them to receive his gospel. He bore testimony that Jesus Christ was the Son of God. Many people, including Andrew and John, listened to John the Baptist’s testimony and wanted to know more about Jesus Christ. When Jesus Christ came, they were prepared to listen to him, and they also believed he was the Son of God. (John 1:35–46)

We can prepare the way for Jesus Christ in our hearts by learning about Him and following His teachings. As we gain a testimony of Jesus Christ we can share our testimonies with others. By sharing our testimonies, we can help others be prepared to listen to the gospel message and believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the “True Light” John spoke of. He is our example. He taught us and showed us the way we should go. (John 1:9)

Scripture

John 1: 6–9

“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”

Questions

  • Jesus is known as the Light of the World. How is Jesus like a light?
  • In John 1: 23 John the Baptist explains, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord”. What does it mean to “make straight the way of the Lord”? How can we “make straight the way of the Lord?”
  • How can we strengthen our testimonies of Jesus Christ?
  • In what ways can we share our testimonies with others?

Quote

“Jesus Christ is the light of the world because he is the source of the light that quickens our understanding, because his teachings and his example illuminate our path, and because his power persuades us to do good.” Dallin H. Oaks
