THE FIRST VISION podcast is officially out TODAY! It’s one way in which the Joseph Smith Papers is starting off the bicentennial of Joseph Smith’s 1820 vision. Find the podcast (a six-episode miniseries) on iTunes/Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

I spent so many hours in 2019 creating this podcast for the Joseph Smith Papers and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It’s a public history project for which the primary audience is Latter-day Saints, but I hope that scholars of American religious history will find value in it as well. But what really makes this documentary-style podcast special for me is the group of scholars I interviewed for it. You will hear insights from Christopher Jones, Rachel Cope, Steve HarperBrent RogersRobin JensenMatt GodfreyJenny Lund, Mark Staker, and Elder LeGrand Curtis Jr. They are each so smart and their combined knowledge and wisdom is amazing to listen to.

Curt Dahl was a terrific producer and Ben Godfrey ushered this project through countless obstacles. Jenny Rollins lent her editorial expertise to the project and Nathan Waite and Britta Adams were each a tremendous help in the final weeks before the podcast’s release.

So, the podcast is out in the wild now. I hope you enjoy it!
