Imagine.

The live announcement.

The press conference.

The pressure of the new office.

The charge to bring the Gospel to all the earth.

The expectations.

Russell M. Nelson is now the 17th President and Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

As I was asking for personal confirmation of this man and his calling, I decided to look up some incidents in his life to get to know him better.

On many occasions, he has shown love, concern, and support for others.

Remember this instance with Elder Wirthlin?

During his address on “The Great Commandment” in October 2007, Elder Wirthlin, 90, started to shake. Soon a colleague, Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Twelve, helped support him with one hand from the back.

Although still shaking, Elder Wirthlin was able to finish his talk in its entirety, with the assistance of Elder Nelson.

Just as President Nelson supported his good friend during this time of need, we have the opportunity now to sustain and support a newly-called Prophet of God.

When speaking of (and to) President Nelson, Greg Trimble said it best . . .

You know hearts… maybe better than anyone on this earth. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. I don’t think so for a minute. Consider the symbolism and imagery involved as we live in a day in which the Lord states that “the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men’s hearts shall fail them.” You just happen to find yourself positioned in these last days to help repair those spiritually broken hearts through your teachings, testimony, and love of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

We have all learned so much from President Nelson. He deserves our love—our respect—our support.

He’s given encouragement for when we feel “weak in the heart.” The peace, comfort, and knowledge that comes from the Gospel exceeds everything, as he relates in the video below.

So, friends, let’s step up.

Let’s do what needs to be done.

Let’s put our shoulder to the wheel.

Ask personally for confirmation. Trust the process.

We can and should support Pres. Nelson and his new councilors in this massive undertaking we call the Gospel.
