The martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith, on June 27, 1844, is remembered by Saints every year. John Taylor, who was there, gave a speech in 1854 in which he told his memories of that fateful day. His speech was recorded in shorthand by George D. Watt and deciphered by LaJean Carruth just a few years ago.
