At least 20 angels visited Joseph Smith—who were they?

We love and admire Joseph Smith, the first prophet of this dispensation.

We know that the heavens were opened to him, and in addition to God the Father and Jesus Christ, he was also visited by other heavenly messengers.

Elder George Q. Cannon said of Joseph Smith: “He was visited constantly by angels. “These various angels, the heads of dispensations, . . . ministered unto him. . . . He had vision after vision in order that his mind might be fully saturated with a knowledge of the things of God, and that he might comprehend the high and holy calling that God had bestowed upon him” (Journal of Discourses, 23:362).

If we peer into the annals of church history, we see early Church documents reveal that Joseph Smith’s visions and visits by heavenly messengers are many.

Some of those heavenly messengers that visited Joseph personally and helped restore the truths of the gospel include:

-Adam

-Abraham

Adam appeared to the Prophet in a vision recorded in D&C 137, as did Abraham along with Joseph’s brother, Alvin Smith.

Here is an interesting website I found that discusses a potential meaning behind angel names.
