Casper Wyoming Temple Open House Begins

The Casper Wyoming Temple, the second temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wyoming, has officially opened its doors for tours. A media event held on Monday, August 26, 2024, featured key church leaders including Elder Randall K. Bennett, North America Central Area President; Elder James R. Rasband, an assistant executive director of the Temple Department; and Camille N. Johnson, Relief Society General President.

Elder Bennett emphasized the temple’s spiritual significance, stating, β€œIt is the house of the Lord, and what stands out is the feeling of closeness to our Heavenly Father and our Savior. The focus on the Savior and the peace and quiet, that and light that you feel in what can be a dark world for many people.”

President Johnson highlighted the importance of the temple in making sacred covenants with God, saying, β€œTemples are where we make sacred covenants with God, and in return, He blesses us with an extra measure of His love and mercy and His capacity-enhancing power.”

The open house for invited guests took place on August 27 and 28, 2024, with a public open house scheduled from August 29 through September 14, 2024, excluding Sundays. The tours are open to all, with no tickets required.

Elder Rasband invited the public to experience the peace of the temple, saying, β€œWe are eager for the public, both here in Casper and in central Wyoming and elsewhere, to come and see the temple, to have a feeling of the peace that is in the temple, to understand a bit more about our doctrine and why the temple is so important to us.”

The Casper Wyoming Temple will be dedicated by Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Sunday, November 24, 2024. The dedication will be broadcast to all church units within the temple district.

About the Casper Wyoming Temple

Located at 3011 Independence Court in Casper, the temple occupies a 9.52-acre site and spans 9,950 square feet. The structure is built with a steel frame and features exterior cladding made of glass fiber-reinforced concrete. The temple serves over 15,000 members of the Church across nearly 50 congregations. Its design includes motifs inspired by Wyoming’s state flower, the Indian paintbrush, and sagebrush.

The Casper Wyoming Temple was announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson in April 2021, with construction beginning in October 2021. President Nelson urged members to “keep your temple covenants and blessings foremost in your minds and hearts” when announcing the temple, along with 19 others.

This new temple is the Church’s 201st operating temple and will be the second in Wyoming, following the Star Valley Wyoming Temple dedicated in October 2016. Another temple in Cody, Wyoming, was announced in October 2021.

Wyoming holds historical significance for the Church, as Latter-day Saint pioneers traveled across the state during their westward migration to Utah in the mid-1800s. President Johnson reflected on this connection, noting, “This is an especially sweet opportunity for me because my ancestors passed through this area as they followed the Oregon Trail on their way to the Salt Lake Valley in the middle of the 19th century.”

The Casper Wyoming Temple stands as a symbol of faith and a place of spiritual refuge, inviting all to experience its serenity and significance in the lives of Latter-day Saints.

The new temple recommend interview questions: What exactly has changed?

President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continued his fervent focus on improving the faith’s temple worship Sunday at the concluding session of the 189th Semiannual General Conference. He read an updated list of questions Church members will be asked when receiving a temple recommend. The new questions are below. Temple recommend questions have been periodically clarified or adjusted to meet the needs and circumstances of God’s children. These current updates clarify, but do not change, worthiness requirements to enter a temple.
