Have you ever gotten stuck somewhere in the scriptures wondering, “How does this apply to me?” We know that we ought to “liken” the scriptures unto ourselves (2 Ne.11:8), but this isn’t always easy to do. Thankfully there’s a new, one-of-a-kind resource that can help!

The website www.ScriptureStudyQuestions.com is an interactive E-Book entitled “5000+ Questions to Apply the Scriptures to Your Life.” And yes, there really are over 5000 questions!

The author, Liz Kazandzhy, has posed deep and meaningful study questions for nearly every verse from 1 Nephi to Alma 29. They aren’t factual questions that require vast knowledge to answer. Instead, they are open-ended, application-focused questions that require only the ability to ponder, a desire to learn from the Spirit, and the humility to change as you strive to more fully live the gospel.

Consider these examples of verses you might otherwise just skip over:

2 Nephi 1:1 – If you wanted to tell your children about “how great things the Lord had done for [you]” in your life, what things or experiences would you tell them about?

2 Nephi 15:5 – To destroy the vineyard, the Lord only needed to withhold His protective power from it. How does sinning “turn off” the power of God in our lives? How does repentance turn it back on?

Mosiah 2:3 – Prior to receiving the words of their prophet, the people offered sacrifices. What could you sacrifice (sins, bad habits, etc.) in order to be more receptive and worthy of the Holy Ghost in your life, especially during your church meetings?

How To Recognize When You Have the Spirit, and When You Don’t

I remember having a conversation about the Spirit, with my college roomate. He was 3-4 years younger than myself and preparing for a mission. He said something about how it’s not possible to have the Spirit with you all the time. I agreed, but called to his attention those days when everything just seems right. Though everything doesn’t go right, you’re not bothered by it. You’re just a little happier than normal, a little more interested in other people, their joys and problems
